Winsford Ladies Midweek club by Jean Begg

As part of the fund-raising events for their charity of the year `Parkinson’s UK, Winsford Ladies Midweek club held a coffee and chat morning at St Andrews Church, Winsford. Pauline Hassell did a flower arranging demonstration and the arrangements were raffled off to add to the funds. Thanks to all those who kindly contributed cakes including ASDA and community co-ordinator, Caroline Cocklin who helped to serve drinks and chat to those who attended.

Jenny from the local Parkinsons support group put on a display of books and leaflets outlining the work they do in the local area. £215 was raised, thank you to all who supported the event.

Jean Begg, secretary, raised £148 doing a sponsored walk along the Shropshire Union Canal. These events are the beginning of a fund-raising program which will continue until December.

Trevor Wragg was guest speaker at the May meeting talking about Dry Stone Walls. As a master craftsman he has been building dry-stone walls for fifty years and is a qualified training instructor and assessor. The magnificent structures stop livestock from wandering and are homes for small animals, birds and insects. Trevor's talk was interesting and entertaining and at the end he generously donated half of his fee to their charity fund.

Members visited Long Acre Garden, Bunbury in June. Mr and Mrs Bourne have been opening their garden as part of the NGS for the last 16 years. The garden is very secluded comprising of a number of areas tucked away creating an intriguing and rewarding walk around a delightful place which houses some exotic plants as well as many native ones.
