THIRTY-FIVE members of the Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers set out on the scenic route to Ludlow for a glorious day’s walk on May 10.

The A group, led by Brian Holmes, alighted first at Craven Arms and embarked on an epic 17 mile linear hike to Ludlow.

The group walked through beautiful Shropshire and Herefordshire countryside with superb views of open farmland, passing Stokesay Castle and Downton Castle, and climbing 2,500 feet in total.

Graham Reid took a combined B and C group on a beautiful 12 mile hike along the River Teme via Whitecliffe, on into Herefordshire countryside via Downton Valley, and back to Ludlow via Bromfield, having taken on approximately 1,000 feet of ascent.

The D group, led by Rosie McKenzie, took on a very pleasant circular seven mile walk out from Ludlow and back, enjoying river and field paths with very little climbing and visiting the famous Ludlow Food Centre along the route.

The weather was ideal for walking with plenty of sunshine. Once the groups arrived back in Ludlow there were plenty of pubs and the odd café to enjoy refreshments in what is a lovely, characterful town.

Everyone had a great day out.

The next trip will be to Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales, on Sunday, May 24. For more details please phone Barbara Ward 01565 651765.
