WITTON Albion are the toast of Cheshire after outclassing Stalybridge Celtic to lift the Cheshire Senior Cup.

And the manner of the 2-0 victory has given Albion fans and club offcials fresh hope for further success as the season nears its climax.

Manager Jim Vince was delighted with his side's performance in the final which was matched by an equally professional display on Saturday against Ossett.

Vince said: "There is very little I can say about the performance against Celtic.

"It was an honour to be there and I feel very privileged to have been part of the experience.

"It was an excellent game and even those who weren't fans of either club would have enjoyed the contest.

"We played very well, especially the young lads who came into the squad and I think that vindicates what I am trying to do at Witton which is bring through the best young talent in the area.

"I don't think there is a better young keeper than Brett Walker and we are always looking to bring more youngsters through."

One such player made his debut for Witton on Saturday against Ossett.

Vince added: "Shaun Whalley joined us for Runcorn last week and he is a young player who impressed me when we played against them earlier in the season.

"We put seven days notice in for him and when that was up he jumped at the chance to join us.

"It just shows that players understand what we are building at Witton."

The manager will be hoping his mix of young guns and old heads will continue the Albion revival this weekend when they travel to Runcorn tonight, Wednesday, and Gateshead on Saturday.
