KURT Gidley will arrive at The Wire with the 2015 Danny Buderus Medal, awarded to Newcastle Knights' Player of the Year.

Gidley departs Hunter Stadium after an illustrious 15-year career as the club's most capped skipper.

Outgoing acting NRL coach Buderus, the former Newcastle, Leeds and Australia hooker, said: “Kurt just fought for every game that he played and the legacy he has left this season will stay with the playing group.

“He never gave up, and that’s his mantra. He’s one of those players who everyone loved playing with.

“His attitude's always first class and that’s driven him for so long.”

In other Wolves news, Academy coach Lee Briers scored a try and helped raise more than £25,000 for the Danny Jones Fund as his World Select XIII were beaten 16-12 by their Halifax counterparts at The Shay on Sunday.

Former Wolves under 19s academy and community coach Alan Kilshaw, who has returned from a stint in Australia as head coach of Sarina Crocodiles in the Mackay League, has taken charge at Rochdale Hornets.

North Wales Crusaders' Jono Smith, a former amateur with Warrington Wizards, Bank Quay Bulls and Rylands Sharks, has been tempted to Spotland by Kilshaw.
