Douglas 22 Winnington Park 7

WINNINGTON scored more than 90 points when these teams met at Burrows Hill in October.

But Douglas repaired damaged pride by winning the return on Saturday, inflicting on Park a second defeat in three league matches since the turn of the year.

Mark Warr’s men slip below Northwich, their guests in 10 days’ time, in the standings as a result.

The home team took the lead early on, Dan Creer unleashing a drive for the line that was rewarded with a try.

Luke Hyland converted.

Winnington rallied though, replying with an opportunist try on the left when they made the most of sloppy defending.

A successful conversion levelled the score.

Douglas continued to impose themselves on the visitors, and established an interval advantage when Will Cain intercepted a wayward pass before scorching over the whitewash.

Hyland’s extras made it 14-7.

Unable to find any fluency, Park’s frustration after the interval led to them conceded a series of penalties.

Hyland nailed one three-pointer before Winnington endured a 10-minute spell a man down when they had a player sent to the sin bin for his indiscipline.

Douglas made the most of their advantage, increasing their lead further when Robert Todd touched down.

They protected a 22-7 lead for the game’s remainder, recording a fourth successive home win.

Winnington followed an emphatic success against the Isle of Man outfit last time out with a derby defeat to Northwich.

They will hope the reverse is true this time around.
