ST Luke’s Hospice is looking for a soapbox racing team to represent them.

The Winsford-based hospice has been named the headline charity of the first-ever Crewe Krazy Races, which replaces the popular event held in Northwich last year.

Now, they are looking for a team to build a kart and enter the competition on their behalf.

Andy Bailey, corporate partnership manager for St Luke’s, said: “We are delighted to be one of the headline charities for Krazy Races.

“For more than 35 years, St Luke’s has provided care and support to local people at a time in their lives when they need it most.

“Our staff and volunteers love getting involved in our communities as much as possible and we can’t wait for this event!

“As much as we would love to enter Krazy Races ourselves, building karts is not our forte at the hospice.

“However, we are appealing for any local businesses or groups who would like to enter and fly the flag for the Hospice to please get in touch."

Krazy Races drew thousands of people to the streets of Northwich in 2022 and 2023.

However, Northwich Town Council decided to bench the event 'for the foreseeable future', explaining they were looking to get 'value for money' with events on the town’s calendar.

Organisers then confirmed they would be taking the event to Crewe instead.

It was announced this week St Luke’s and Crewe’s own Hopes and Beams would be the headline charity partners for Krazy Races 2024.

The free-to-attend event takes place on July 14 and will see up to 40 teams hurtle down Broad Street in the town centre, with a 'limited' number of team spaces remaining.

Danny Scoffin, head of brand and strategic development at Krazy Races; “We decided to let the people of Crewe select our charities and they didn’t disappoint, with more than 1,000 locals casting their vote.

“The driving ethos behind Krazy Races is rooted in our charity partnerships.

“2023 was a record-breaking year for us with our events raising more than £100,000 for charity.

“Our ambition is to raise even more this year and we are confident this is more than achievable with our partnership with these two fantastic charities.”
