IN reply to your article ‘INEOS boss offers councillors assurances over impact of shale gas developments’.
Why are we even having this discussion?
In January last year, after consideration of all the evidence, the cross party Environmental Audit Committee issued a report calling for a halt to fracking.
Their conclusion was shale fracking should be put on hold in the UK because it is incompatible with our climate change targets and could pose significant localised environmental risks to public health. There are also huge uncertainties around the impact that fracking could have on water supplies, air quality and public health.
Northwich also has a uniquely vulnerable geology, due to millennia of salt extraction.
