I SIGNED the Bridge2Barnton petition, against my usual principles.
I'd have liked nothing done, because it's ridiculous that the bulk of what's going over the bridge is not people, it's their vehicles.
And most of the fuel put in those vehicles is used to shift the vehicle, not the rider.
So the simplest way to sort the bottleneck, reduce our transport costs and cut fuel use (and carbon emissions) is to do something about car use.
While the council are investigating the possibility of a new bridge, they might consider a cycle path along the river, to level the journey into Northwich and make it traffic free.
It should be possible for Tata to allow this between their works and the river. It should cost a fraction of the cost of a new bridge.
However, CWAC seem bent on making Northwich car-friendly and bike-unfriendly, with their Northwich runaround and embrace of big supermarkets needing huge lorries. With no let-up apparent in this policy, I reluctantly signed the petition.
