REGARDING the letter from the two Labour councillors representing Winnington and Castle, I am surprised at the number of errors it contains.

I have knocked on doors in Solvay Road and I have been amazed at the level of animosity expressed about their elected representatives, who have not responded to their concerns regarding the state of the unadopted roads.

It is surprising they claim that they were not aware of these issues. It is clear the cost per household is an estimate and would bring certainty to residents who could be subject to uncapped costs for repairs by the current owners.

I have obtained a copy of the letter and email that was sent to both members on March 12, contrary to their claim that they were not aware of the letter.

They have also mentioned the council finances and an alleged black hole. This again is wrong.

Budget papers from January 2014 put in place a three-year detailed plan to deliver the savings, of which over £40m have been completed.

This long-term financial planning has enabled us to freeze council tax for the next two years.

What is more surprising is that they confuse capital expenditure (one off expenditure) with revenue (reoccurring expenditure).

The balancing of the books is very different to one off investment in infrastructure as would be required in the Solvay Road area to pay to upgrade the roads.
