I AM not surprised to read that Waitrose will no longer allow customers to obtain free tea or coffee to consume in the restaurant unless an item is also purchased from the cafe, Guardian, February 4.

Have they considered that someone may just have purchased £100 of shopping?

The Northwich store is usually well kept but have they considered that these table-blockers that they now wish to remove from the cafe will have to get their free drink on the way in, leading to an increase in spillages around the "welcome" area?

The drinks machine in the Sandbach store is located next to the newspaper and flower stand, adjacent to the customer toilets.

Occasionally the floor is wet — they acknowledge the risk and put out a wet-floor hazard sign.

Putting a sign out will not prevent everyone from slipping and possibly falling.

Have they considered the following: increased risk of falls, some people may be frail or partially sited and unable to carry a drink around the store and through the till?

The risk of scalding small children running in the store? Also, some people who want to use the cafe may only eat allergen-free food, be dieting or unable to eat due to medical conditions.

Would it not be better to show proof of minimum purchase from the store for that day?
