I THINK the flood defence plans are insane.
It’ll mean each time we get too much water that the level will have to rise to get through the high town defences – and it’ll rise all the way back, and flood where it can.
Better to drop the level of the likes of Weaver Way, turn it into nonessential park/path that can be used as cafe overspill in dry weather, river overspill in wet.
That way we’ll get a far more aesthetic result.
But we will need to entice homes and businesses away from the immediate riverside; some are quite new, so it is a long term plan, to be enacted in steps as opportunities arise.
