SO a belated welcome Mr Cameron to Northwich, Guardian, November 5.

Apart from your Parliamentary colleague, Graham Evans, I’m just not sure who else knew you were in town to see.

Was it the town council, the town mayor, the local Cheshire West and Chester councillors or even the residents?

Was it simply an impromptu visit or perhaps out of intrigue when you noticed our town’s unusual gyratory road system far below as your helicopter sped over the green Cheshire fields soon to be spliced in two by HS2 trains.

I saw the pleasant pictures of you both standing in front of the narrow boats moored in Hayhurst Quay and perhaps you took time to visit the new Waitrose store, but please remember most families in the town cannot afford either facility.

Indeed, as you were no doubt briefed (you were weren’t you?), more and more families in the town are relying on food banks to survive.

If you had managed to find time to speak to shoppers or traders on nearby Witton Street, they may have told you about the high cost of living, the growing number of empty shops, the length of time it takes to see their GP, the state of the town centre library, and the current consultation to fill-in the pedestrian subway.

Perhaps next time you can find more time to visit our community and hear about life beyond Hayhurst Quay.
