IN THE report about the presentation on Barons Court, Guardian, November 5, it was mentioned that Clr Gaynor Sinar had made critical remarks about the comments made by some members of the public at the meeting.

I believe that I was one of the accused and I would be very grateful for the opportunity to reply.

Clr Sinar is entitled to her opinion. However, as one of those who did ask a question I just want to respond Clr Sinar’s comment about people in the room being 'so negative' about the proposed development, as she put it.

Unfortunately she appears to suffer from that common syndrome among politicians that if an ordinary person dares put a different point of view to theirs that somehow they are being disloyal or subversive or, in this case, not wanting the best for Northwich.

I know from speaking to many others that share my view that CWAC in its plans for developing Barons Quay is inflicting an ugly and unnecessary monstrosity on the town, that they are all motivated by wanting to see Northwich achieve its true potential.

They all agree redeveloping Barons Quay is essential but are equally unanimous in their view that handing over the prime riverside site in the town for an Asda supermarket amounts to a crime against the community.

It makes it worse that the building itself will be of such unmitigated ugliness that it is a sure fire winner for the architectural award for Carbuncle of the Year when or if it is completed.

I believe Northwich is entitled to much better than Clr Jones and his mates apparently believe we deserve.

It may be too late because deals have been stitched up which are not available for the public to see, but those of us who want to ask questions will not be intimidated by silly attempts at smears about being 'negative'.
