NORTHWICH is currently a mess due, in large, to poor decisions by our councillors.

Take the new swimming pool. In order to save money, it was decided to only have six lanes, with the result that it cannot be used competitively, so is a total waste of the money that is being spent on it.

It will do nothing to increase Northwich’s standing in the sport and we already have a six-lane pool at Winnington.

Now, we are told that there is more money in the kitty.

What should we do with that money?

For a start, leave the underpass alone. I am disabled and can only walk very, very slowly. By the time I am in the middle of the road, inevitably the crossing signals have changed.

The underpass is used by cyclists too. Why fix something that isn’t broken?

Better lighting would help, but the underpass does its job well, so leave it where it is.

Northwich library definitely needs fixing. It is used by many people who still prefer books to Kindles, by people who wish to use the computer facilities there and by many societies and charities that make use of the various rooms.

The building has a blue plaque and is an important part of Northwich, yet it has been allowed to fall into a very bad state of repair.

Any extra money in the kitty should be used to restore this iconic building to its former glory, and to retain its use as a library.

Northwich should have a library and the facility must not be taken away from us.
