IMPRESSIVE though the massive steel skeleton of the new Lifestyle Centre is in Northwich town centre, it’s hardly attractive and needs dressing decently.
The Winsford Lifestyle Centre shows how Northwich may look when dressed, though the Winsford centre does have the great advantage of an open setting, unlike Northwich which is more a case of town cramming than planning.
The Winsford centre was opened by Vale Royal Borough Council as one of their legacy projects in 2009. Another aspect of ‘townscape’ is the attractive vista of Victorian buildings revealed by the recent removal of Winsford’s Civic Centre.
It’s a pity that Moss Farm pool and sports complex is scheduled to close after the Northwich Centre opens, because new residents of the Hartford and Winnington Village developments will need to join the traffic on the labyrinth of Northwich streets known as the new one-way system to reach it.
Not a good example of forward planning I would say!
