I REFER to Debbie Clark’s letter which was published in the Guardian on April 16 in which she asks if anyone has experienced problems driving on the iron bridge at the bottom of Winnington Hill. When I drive into Northwich I approach this bridge from Castle and so have to turn right onto the bridge.

The turn is far too tight and you feel as though you are driving directly towards the traffic coming in from Winnington.

The bridge is also perilously close on the right hand side and it feels like there just is not enough room to make the turn.

My car is quite small so it must be even worse to try and turn on to the bridge in a long vehicle.

When we had a roundabout and two way traffic on the bridge there were never any problems, the traffic always flowed and there were no queues.

The way it is now has made it far worse and more likely for accidents to happen.

People try to change lanes on the bridge and it is obvious that the person who decided the layout of the road has never actually tried to drive onto the bridge from Castle. I am not an expert in traffic management but I know when there isn’t enough space on the road and when I am being forced to drive too close to other vehicles.

I dont know why a system that worked perfectly well had to be changed, if it isn’t broke – don’t try and fix it!
