REGARDING the idea by the Mid Cheshire rail users groups of running a second hourly train service daily with selected stops would solve overcrowding at peak time use.
It seems a good idea, to spread passenger loading, and with fewer freight trains, possible a bottleneck might occur at Stockport and onwards.
With the new additional link from Manchester Piccadilly it could be possible to cross the city and link as final destination, Manchester Victoria.
The fast train service, skipping stations is not new.
At least one weekday train ran from Manchester Central at 4.28pm, stopping at Altrincham, Hale, Knutsford, Northwich and Greenbank. As I left at Greenbank 5.14pm I am unsure if it stopped elsewhere before Chester.
Another possibility is to run at non-peak times, Northwich-Manchester Piccadilly only.
