ON December 3 at 6pm, I was shopping at Tesco Express in Castle with my two sons, aged six and two.

While I was packing away my shopping at the self service checkout, my two-year-old managed to wriggle free and headed for the automatic doors leading straight onto the busy road. I shouted for someone to get my son while my six-year-old tried to catch him. People just stood around watching as I ran after him. Fortunately a lovely young man rescued him. I said thank you to him, but I didn’t get his name. I hope he reads this letter, as I would just like to let him know how much I appreciated his help. If it hadn’t been for him, my son would have run straight into the road and would not have stood a chance. Thank you so much.
