FINANCIAL experts have reassured Northwich Victoria nothing will change now they are running the club’s home ground.

Deloitte & Touche took over as landlords at the end of last month charged with the task of recovering money owed to the bank.

“We are looking to sell the property,” said Jo Ouvry, co-head of PR at the global finance firm.

She confirmed that Yorkshire Bank, the English subsidiary of Scottish lender Clydesdale, had appointed Deloitte partners Dan Butters and Bill Dawson to claw back a £1.25m debt run up by landowners Beaconet Limited – the company owned by former Vics chairman Mike Connett.

Their job is to raise that cash by selling the Marston’s Arena – plus the rest of the nine-acre Wincham site – to the highest bidder.

“They were appointed as Fixed Charge Receivers over the property owned by Beaconet Limited on October 28,” said Ouvry.

“In the meantime that business continues to trade as normal.”

Connett paid £225,000 for the site almost four years ago.

Since then he has borrowed money from three lenders using the land as security on the loans.

He used some of that cash to finish building the then Victoria Stadium, which has since been rebranded as the Marston’s Arena.

Connett later borrowed £150,000 off Marston’s Brewery and a further £250,000 off Manchester based Summit Property Finance and Brokers.

A mortgage deed signed by all four parties in May last year agreed an order of priority for the charges should Beaconet face financial difficulty.

Meanwhile a petition by HM Revenue and Customs to wind up Connett’s company, which has not filed accounts with Companies House since late 2005, will still be heard at London’s High Court later this month.

Performance figures that should have been published more than a year ago remain overdue.

“The appointment of receivers will not affect a winding up petition,” added Ouvry.

Connett continues to operate from his Wincham base, only yesterday calling Vics’ official supporters club to cancel their monthly social evening that he had been due to host at the ground.

That will now take place at another venue in Northwich.
