VICS fear Lee Steele may have broken a bone in his leg at Torquay on Sunday.
Manager Dino Maamria told the Guardian he could be without his main goal getter for months.
"I don't know how long Lee will be out," he said.
"It looks like he has fractured his tibia following a tackle late in the game on Sunday.
"I thought it was a terrible challenge but the referee did not even give a free kick."
Maamria revealed that the 34-year-old had had an inital x-ray yesterday, Monday, but he would not know the full extent of the damage until later this week.
Steele scored Vics' equaliser in the 2-1 defeat at Plainmoor, his third goal of the season.
He added: "It just rubs it in really.
"We had a bad day and to find out about this is hard to take.
"It's extra worrying because we have such a small squad so to lose a player long term, as we have already with Joel Byrom, is a blow."
