WITTON Albion manager Paul Ogden has turned to a promising former Football League player to add to his options in the middle of the pitch.

Ex-QPR junior Danny Maguire made his debut in Saturday’s win over Ossett Albion.

“He is looking to relaunch his career,” said the Wincham Park boss, referring to a long-term knee injury that cut short the 21-year-old’s spell at Loftus Road.

“I think we can help him do that by giving him time on the field.”

Maguire agreed non-contract terms with the Evo-Stik League Division One North high-fliers following a trial at Albion’s Cheshire neighbours Crewe Alexandra this summer.

He partnered Dave MacPherson in the heart of Witton’s midfield at the weekend.

However Ogden’s squad reshuffle has led to two players heading through the Wincham Park exit to former league foes Leek Town.

Midfield schemer Christian Millar and attacker Josh Hancock made their debut for Blues in their defeat at Rainworth on Saturday.

The latter’s departure will surprise some following his summer move – and the high expectations attached to it – from rivals Winsford United.

But Hancock, who turned 20 earlier this month, failed to force his way into Ogden’s reckoning after making four starts in league and cup.

He did not score in red and white.

Meanwhile another midfield man, Adam Foy, has joined Evo-Stik League Division One South promotion hopefuls Newcastle Town for a second spell.

The 29-year-old had only returned to Witton this summer after an enforced spell out of the game through injury.
