CARL Macauley has said he would have no hesitation counting again on Cesare Vernazza if Danny Roberts isn’t passed fit to face Bedworth this weekend.
The Italian goalkeeper stepped in at short notice to cover for Witton Albion’s regular number one during a 2-2 draw at Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday.
He played a starring role too, saving a penalty in the second half.
Macauley told the Guardian he hoped Roberts, who had been an ever-present between the posts for Albion in the Northern Premier League’s Division One South this season, would be ready to return tomorrow.
“Danny will have treatment and we’ll see how he responds,” said the Witton boss.
“But Cesare did fantastically for us [on Wednesday]; he made some important saves, and of course got us out of jail with a great penalty save.
“He hadn’t trained with us, nor even met his teammates, before the start of the game.
“We were made up with how he played.”
Albion will again be without influential midfielder Paul Williams, who has work commitments, for the visit of opponents they saw off 4-0 back in October.
However defender Michael Wilson is available again.
Danny Reynolds, who scored on his debut in midweek, should keep his place.
Colwyn Bay announced on Wednesday that attacker Will Jones, part of a Burscough side that reached the Division One North play-offs last season, had left to join Witton.

However Albion have yet to confirm they have international clearance for the front man, who was the Linnets’ leading scorer last term.
