WINNINGTON Park’s teenagers take the next step towards their goal of appearing in a national final this weekend.

Colin Josephs’ junior colts, crowned RFU North Division U17s Shield champions last month, meet the Midlands’ best team in Doncaster on Sunday.

Their semi final clash with Silhillians kicks off at midday.

“The lads have already made history,” said club chairman Richard Elliot.

“Their cup run is better than any of their predecessors’ achievements, so already they have a tale to tell no matter what happens.

“However now they’re so close to the final I know they’ll be desperate to go one better.”

Park have yet to concede a point in wins over Furness, Ripon and Roundhegians, racking up 86 of their own along the way.

Their 14-0 win last time out clinched the regional crown.

“It was a disciplined performance that proves the squad is maturing rapidly,” was Josephs’ verdict.

“The boys stuck to their task, tackled ferociously and got over the finish line which at this stage of the competition is the only thing that counts.”

Silhillians crushed Oundle 55-15 to win the Midlands Shield.

London and south east champions Bishops Stortford take on south west region winners Old Richians in the other semi final.
