NORTHWICH Rowing Club returned from Agecroft Head on Saturday with victories in eight boat classes.

George Crouchley was a convincing winner in an under 18s boys’ single scull in the morning, while Jess Swindells edged a rival from Queen’s Park High School to classify first in a women’s IM2 single.

A men’s masters quad made up of Steve Wignell, Nev Hand, Bernie Meegan and Mike Francis completed a 3,000m course at Salford Quays in 11.18.1 to claim the honours ahead of Trafford in their category.

Crouchley returned to the water with Lawrence Williams, Matt Radford and Greg Murphy to win in an under 18s boys’ quad, while Georgia Shirley and Sophie Gillbanks were more than 45 seconds clear of their closest rivals in the under 16s girls’ double scull class.

Northwich’s under 18s girls’ quad, with Rachel Cooney, Hannah Cooney, Anya George and Katherine Schofield on board, won a head-to-head with Grosvenor by a convincing margin.

An under 16s boys’ double, consisting of Tom Swithenbank and Will Miles, was more than 30 seconds quicker than eight other opponents.

Meanwhile the club’s youngest entry at the weekend, an under 14s girls’ coxed quad, shared first place with Trafford after they both stopped the clock on 12.34.7.

Ellie Cushen, crowned a national champion earlier this year, led Grange School’s challenge at the same event.

She was a comfortable winner in an under 16s girls’ single, timing 12.11.1.

An under 15s boys’ coxed quad of Matt Kenyon, Nat Morrey, Seb Paisley, Brad Strickland-Baker and cox Olly Andrew claimed first prize too, leaving Warrington to settle for second spot.

And Maddie Brougham, Antonia Molton, Francesca Campbell, Claudia Delafaille and cox Hana Patel were the best of the bunch in the under 15s girls’ coxed quad, edging out neighbours Northwich.
