ALAN Kemp, Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s national champion, started a new season in style with a victory in his age category at the Derek Smith Memorial Road Race in Halifax.
He was part of a break of nine riders on the second lap of an undulating course, resisting multiple attacks to contest a sprint finish along with four other rivals.
Kemp crossed the line second overall behind Steve Jolley at the end of 40 miles.
Meanwhile Andy Wood and Emily Martin, representing Weaver Valley, took part in the Manchester and District Ladies’ Cycling Association invitational 10-mile time trial the same day.
They completed a course close to Chelford in 26.00 and 28.07 respectively.
Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey won in 22.00.
