DARRYL Fallows defeated two of the country’s best players during the latest round of matches in the UK Pool Tour’s Premier League at the weekend.
He continued his fine run of results against England captain Lee Kendall, winning their head-to-head 8-5 at Birmingham’s Hilton Metropole on Saturday.
Earlier in the day the debutant proved too strong for Robert Wharne, also a current international as well as being a former national amateur champion, to extend a winning streak in the series to three matches.
That sequence ended on Sunday though following an 8-4 reverse against Giuseppe D’Imperio, third in last season’s Tour rankings.
It leaves Fallows, who qualified to play in the Premier League after finishing 2013 placed inside the top 10, occupying eighth position in the table after six matches.
The Rudheath-based star, who plays for Owley Wood in the Northwich and District League, had prepared for the weekend’s action by winning the league’s Division One singles title on Wednesday.
Defending a crown he won for the first time last term, Fallows came from 2-0 down at Gladstone Club to beat eight-time champion Fred Backhouse.
Adam Griffiths, from Gladstone Club, joined Fallows at UK Pool Tour 2.
He bowed out in the second round to Dylan Leary (7-4) after squeezing past Lewis Roberts (7-6) in a deciding frame during their first stage encounter.
The England under 21s trialist won two matches to reach the last 32 of the Challenge competition before losing 5-2 to eventual quarter-finalist Neil Davey.
Clubmate Nicky Hubert progressed to the second round at Jon Perrow’s expense, succumbing later to Ian Ali.
