DEPARTING boss Steve Lloyd has tipped Rudheath Social to set a new club record by reaching the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup last four this weekend.

However he will not be on the touchline for Saturday’s quarter final at Styal after accepting an offer to take over as manager at Eccleshall.

The Northwich outfit has yet to appoint a successor.

“It’s not a competition many who play in the Cheshire League have on their CV,” said Lloyd.

“The players have an opportunity, and they understand that.

“Rudheath’s Saturday side hasn’t been running for long, so to reach this stage of the county cup for the second successive season is an achievement in itself.”

Rudheath were beaten by Manchester Gregorians in last year’s edition, but can be confident of seeing off opponents they have never lost to since earning promotion to the Cheshire League’s top flight.

In their meetings this term, Rudheath won 4-1 at Griffiths Park in the opening week before a 2-2 draw at Styal in October.

Lloyd said: “The lads know a lot more about Styal than they did Manchester.

“There is a lot riding on the game because whoever goes through will be the only side from the league still in the competition.

“I don’t think previous results will count for too much – it was a great point for Rudheath at their place because, to be honest, it was a game Styal could have won.

“They’ve probably been in better form since too.

“I’m sure Rudheath will be stronger when they meet again.

“It’s a quarter final, so the players will be up for it.”

Kick off on Saturday is at 1.30pm.
