BARNTON’S six-wicket success at Heaton Mersey on Saturday extends a winning sequence to three matches – their best run of results in Division One this season.

Captain Simon Hancock chose to bowl first after winning the toss, a decision vindicated by an attack that restricted the home team to 123-9.

Neil Langham (2-14) and Cory Devanny (1-36) were both efficient before Adam Garrod (3-16) and Pat Flanagan (3-34) – who capped a fine display in the field with a stunning catch a gully to dismiss Scott Ainscough – made the most of batsmen attempting to play more attacking strokes.

Barnton eased to their target with 10 overs to spare, the highlight a partnership worth 49 runs for the third wicket between Adam Garrod (52 off 62 balls) and Ben Wingfield (19).

They stay fourth in the standings, 34 points from a promotion position.

Oakmere won a thrilling derby at Winnington Park by five wickets following a successful chase.

Needing 174 to win, they made progress to towards their target thanks to Craig Phelan (42) and Harrison Jones (53) – who hit 11 fours.

Phil Amatiello (2-40) and Jonny Wales (2-56) removed the danger men, leaving the contest in the balance with 55 runs required off 15 overs.

Dan Wood (40no) and Nick Guest (20no) made sure they got them with 10 balls to spare.

Earlier, Park had posted 173-7 after being put in.

They were grateful for contributions from Martin Evans (47) and Aussie Jordan Daly (84), who scored his fourth half-century of the campaign.

No other batsmen made a double-digit score after spin duo Guest (3-55) and Guy Groves (1-48) applied the brakes.

“We didn’t perform to the high standards we’ve become used to,” said Park skipper Alec Butcher afterwards.

“Oakmere fully deserved to win, and they put in a good all-round performance.

“Unfortunately we didn’t field well, so didn’t make the most of the chances we created.”

Brent Hartley steered Kingsley to a comfortable seven-wicket win against Woodford at the Croft, where they successfully chased to 148.

He struck 10 fours and a six to reach the close unbeaten on 80, sharing in a partnership worth 93 runs with Toby Mullins (29no).

The hosts restricted the away team to 147-8 after winning the toss, sharing the wickets between Hartley (2-64), Chris Martin (2-13) and Ben Stoddart (2-35).

They sit sixth after winning six of their past eight league matches, just 16 points adrift of a promotion place.
