BARNTON were on the receiving end of a nine-wicket thrashing at high-fliers Ashton on Mersey in Division A on Saturday.

They were dismissed for just 75 after winning the toss, a late cameo – including four boundaries – from evergreen Derek Bowyer (17no) the highest individual contribution.

Akash Patel (56no off 25 balls) helped his side race to victory in seven overs, with captain Matthew Morley claiming the only wicket.

Oakmere remain on course to finish first in Division B following a 10-wicket win at Malpas, where veteran Mike Cushion (6-43) was their star turn.

He helped reduce the hosts to 79 all out after they had won the toss, leaving opening pair James Norton (33no) and James Williams (42no) to hammer the Northwich outfit to victory inside 10 overs.

Kingsley successfully chased 182 to beat Chester County Officers in the same section, Tom Hughes (43) setting them on a course for victory.

But Haris Yassin (72 off 60 balls) played the decisive innings before Michael Lawless (27no) played through pain caused by a knee injury to finish the job.

Earlier Anthony Alderman (2-33) was the pick of the visitors’ attack as Chester totalled 181-5.

Depleted Winnington Park climbed from the relegation zone following a slender eight-run success away to Bunbury in the same section.

Opener Kendol Richardson (34) was their leading scorer as they posted 148, with Ian Woodcock (23) and John Bradley (29) contributing too alongside 25 extras.

Bradley (5-41 off 15 overs) did not let a back injury faze him after tea, reducing the hosts to 90-8 with support from stand-in skipper Stu Moniz (2-36) and Dan Barnes (2-31).

However the hosts’ tail wagged before Moniz removed danger-man Harry Warr (35) and Gagandeep Bali took a match-clinching wicket in his second over.
