Northwich 230-4
Prestbury 183

Northwich claimed an astonishing last ball victory thanks to the efforts of Lee Evans.

The 16-year-old off spinner hit an unbeaten 83 and took 4-12, including two wickets in the final over.

Earlier Northwich had won the toss and opted to bat on another excellent batting surface at Moss Farm.

Matt Rushworth fell early and Evans was joined by Nigel Goolding (21), 14-year-old James Hodgkinson (23)and, with the total on 95, by Ant Shaw.

The pair put on 135 for the fourth wicket.

Veteran Shaw showed he still has the skills with the bat as he hit 11 fours and two sixes in an innings of 80.

When he fell Northwich declared on 230-4.

Goolding, Toby Hopkinson and James Kimber reduced Prestbury to 58-4 before they rallied.

At 142-4 with 14 overs to go, they looked to be in with a chance of winning.

Captain Mark O'Neil made the vital breakthough with an LBW and, when opener Davies was superbly caught by Hopkinson for 80 off the bowling off Nigel Goolding (3-32), the visitors appeared to be holding out for the draw.

A couple of catches went down as O'Neil turned to the spin of Kendrick and Evans and it was the younger who took the wickets.

The early declaration by Northwich proved vital as the game went to the 50th over.

Prestbury entered it at 183-8.

Three dot balls and then Evans took a return catch, giving him two attempts at the last batsman to win the match .

With the fielders crowding the bat, pressuring the number 11, the very last ball clattered into the stumps, prompting scenes of both jubilation and relief.
