WITTON Albion can ill afford to be complacent against neighbours Congleton Town tomorrow, according to manager Gary Finley.

The Wincham Park chief told the Guardian his team’s victory over the Bears in last season’s Mid-Cheshire FA Senior Cup final counts for nothing.

“That was a long time ago,” he said.

“Both teams have changed personnel over the summer and it’s pointless to think that result will in any way influence what happens tomorrow.

“No two games are ever the same.”

Finley admitted an FA Cup run was among his priorities, although not for financial reasons.

Witton bowed out at the Second Qualifying Round stage last term following a replay against Gateshead, crashing out at the First Qualifying Round stage the season before that.

He said: “We want to get back to winning ways.

“I’m sure the chairman would tell you about the financial benefits of a good cup run, but doing well in the FA Cup can give everybody around the club a lift.

“We’re no different and we want to do well in every competition we enter.”

Albion lost 2-1 at UniBond League newcomers Market Drayton Town on Tuesday, coming off the back of single-goal home reverse against Belper Town.

Congleton, who overcame Dinnington Town to set up their derby date at Wincham Park, are unbeaten.

The Bears have won all their away matches so far this term too, taking them to second spot in the North West Counties League’s Premier Division.

Should tomorrow’s tie end in a draw, the replay will take place at Booth Street next Tuesday, September 1, kick off 7.45pm.
