MATT Norton was Oakmere’s star turn, taking six wickets, as they blew away fellow fast-starters Stockport Trinity on Saturday.

He finished with figures of 6-28 from 11 overs, including three maidens, as the visitors collapsed to 59 all out in a Division Two encounter at Overdale Lane.

Matt Howard took 2-21, while Slade Mitrovich had leading run-scorer Chris Grindley (29) caught behind by Daniel Faulkner.

A seventh successive win was in doubt briefly when the hosts slipped to 30-4 before Alex Hodges (21no) and captain Craig Phelan (10no) eased them to their target at 60-5.

Winnington Park’s climb continued after they condemned struggling Wilmslow to a 150-run reverse at the Rec.

Alec Butcher (39) and Martin Evans (37) set the hosts on a course towards 224-6 after putting on 76 runs for the first wicket.

A further 57 followed for the third, between Jonny Wales (42) and Tyron Young, before James Hendry (27no) and Kendol Richardson (26) added runs later.

Michael Dunning, with 4-13, then knocked over the visitors’ tail after James Hendry (2-21) and Wales (2-10) had made initial roads as Wilmslow folded for 74.

Middlewich’s hopes of chasing a victory at home to Ashley, who scored 211-5 after being put in, were dashed when they tumbled to 29-5 in reply.

A defensive display led by Sam Brothers (24) and captain Phil Parry (15no) ensured they claimed a draw though after reaching 84-8.

They were less fortunate on Sunday, losing by 40 runs in a rearranged fixture at Woodford after Parry (5-41) helped restrict their hosts to 174 all out.

Paul Coot batted patiently, scoring 77, to help Barnton secure a share of the spoils following a draw with Ashton on Mersey in Division One.

A partnership worth 57 runs for the sixth wicket with Mike Cross (20) got the visitors back on track after they had slipped to 101-5.

They closed on 165-7.

That was some way short of a tally posted by the home team, who put 265-6 on the board thanks to a fine century from Alex O’Gara (128).

He added 144 runs for the fourth wicket with Tom Scott (74no) before Sam Connop (3-27) and Pat Flanagan (2-63) applied the brakes.

Captain Mike Dean again led by example for Winsford, who lost by 54 runs at leaders Knutsford in Division Four.

He claimed a wicket and completed two run-outs – one brilliantly off his own bowling – as well as holding on to two catches as the visitors were dismissed for 168 at Knights Grange.

Dave Etchells (2-27), Craig Webb (2-62) and James Tierney (2-33) weighed in with wickets too.

However Dean (36) was short on support at the crease as his side succumbed for 114 in reply.
