CREWS from Northwich Rowing Club returned from the Junior Sculling Regatta on Saturday with medals.

An under 18s girls’ quad of Ellie Cushen, Ellie Heathcock, Charlotte Almond and Rachel Cooney took silver in their boat class after finishing runners-up to Marlow in the A final.

The rivals had been separated by little more than a second following a time-trial at Dorney Lake in the morning.

Patrick Brogan, Josh Burke, Gwilym Harris and Tom Swithenbank were on board an under 18s boys’ quad that crossed the line third in their A final behind two boats from Star & Arrow.

The Northwich combination had been fifth fastest in a time-trial to decide the top-six, and improved later to claim a medal.

Imogen Wolstencroft narrowly missed out on a piece of silverware in a high-class under 18s girls’ single scull field, finishing fourth in a final won by Holly Dunford (Molesey Boat Club) – a reigning world junior champion.

The club sent juniors to take part in the York City Regatta the same day, recording three wins.

Amber Sperring-Toy, Fran Campbell, Molly Garlick and Liv Dunnett continued a promising run of form to win in an under 16s girls’ quad by a comfortable margin over a crew from the host club.

An under 15s girls’ double of Sophie Garlick and Maisy Jardine triumphed too, as did Honor Campbell in the under 15s girls’ single after a close final.

A dozen crews from Northwich, some of them racing side-by-side with rivals from other clubs for the first time, made a short trip to Liverpool for the Merseyside Regatta.

While they did not register a victory, they gained valuable experience for the rest of the season.

One event circled in the diary is the Northwich Regatta on the River Weaver on Bank Holiday Monday, May 28.

Four divisions feature races over a 500m sprint course.
