TEENAGERS representing Northwich Rowing Club sent out a message to rivals across the country by recording wins at the Nottingham City Regatta on Saturday.

Lucy Gillbanks and Beth Willford-Dutton were emphatic victors in the under 18s girls’ double scull final, finishing well clear of Thames Rowing Club in second.

The duo had finished second in their heat at the National Water Sports Centre earlier on.

George Crouchley and Rhys Coffey, in a men’s IM3 double scull, held off the challenge of Northwich clubmates Lawrence Williams and Matthew Radford to win their A final.

A Grange School Rowing Club crew was fourth in the same race.

Kevin Dudley claimed another of Northwich’s wins in the under 17s boys’ single scull final, a race in which teammate Greg Murphy finished fifth.

In the afternoon, Gillbanks (under 18s girls) and Willford-Dutton (women’s IM3) went on to win again in their respective singles categories.

Also in a single, Imogen Wolstencroft (women’s novice) won her heat before finishing as runner-up in the final to Cantabrigian’s Ellie Darlington.

Northwich were also represented in the final of the women’s IM3 quad and double, men’s IM3 quad, women’s IM2 single and double, women’s novice double and the under 18s boys’ quad and double.

“To come away with five wins from such a prestigious regatta shows that the crews’ hard work over the winter is paying off,” said coach Rachel Hooper.

“They showed maturity in their racing to deal with some incredibly tough opposition.”
