GEORGE Lawton’s success on the international stage earned him a prestigious prize at Northwich Rowing Club’s awards ceremony on Sunday.

The teenager received the George Musker Award as a reward for representing Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hungary in August, when he won a silver medal in a men’s double scull.

His coach, Jed Barlow, was presented with the Chairman’s Award in recognition for his work over the previous 12 months.

“It was wonderful to reflect on another successful season on and off the water,” said outgoing captain Rachel Hooper.

“We’ve raised the bar at the performance end of the club, while more adults are taking up the sport thanks to the dedication of our volunteers.”

She went home with the Salt of the Earth Trophy to mark her time as captain.

Ellie Preece was nominated as club coach of the year, while Sally Willford received the Bill Cotton Trophy for her contribution as a volunteer.

The Grange Cup for Endeavour was reserved for new coach John Bloodworth.

Stewart Plant’s performances on the water led to him winning in the veteran of the year category, while Katherine Mooney received the Denis Mills Coxing Trophy.

Jack Radford, who represented England at junior level earlier this year, was picked as best junior.

The Irvine Award for most improved rower went to Beth Willford-Dutton.

On Saturday, an IM3 coxed four of Matthew Roberts, George Crouchley, Matthew Radford, Rhys Coffey and cox Tom Swithenbank were victors in their boat class at the Dee Autumn Head.
