STRUGGLING Barnton suffered a fifth defeat in seven matches on Saturday, this time losing by 107 runs at home to Stockport Georgians in Division A.

Their guests posted 191-5 after winning the toss at Broomsedge, with Matthew Morley and Derek Bowyer taking two wickets each.

Lee Cobley (29) was one of only two batsmen to reach double figures in Barnton’s reply, which ended at 84 all out after Sam Carroll took 5-15 from 11 overs.

Oakmere share the lead in Division B following a comfortable nine-wicket win at Cholmondeley, who they dismissed for just 58.

Dan Gibbons claimed four wickets.

Kingsley almost pinched victory at Prestbury in the same section, where they fell 10 runs short chasing 155 to win.

After losing three quick wickets, captain Julian Holmes (42) and teenager Harry Waring (45no) helped the visitors to secure a deserved draw at 144-7.

Earlier, Andrew Ainsworth had claimed a second five-wicket haul of the season during a 14-spell, supported by Joe Kitchen (3-37).

“Harry epitomised the attacking cricket we want to play,” reflected Holmes.

Winnington Park are in trouble at the table’s basement following a two-wicket defeat at Chester County Officers, a fifth reverse in seven games this season.

They were bowled out for 114 after winning the toss, with a patient 39 from opener Joe Paterson and Darren Falland’s run-a-ball 35 the highlights.

After reaching 84-2, the they lost the next seven wickets for a meagre 20 runs.

The hosts only made it home in the penultimate over, though Tom Speak (3-27), Ash Houghton (2-30) and Dan Barnes (2-4) bowled tightly for Park.

Winsford drew at Barrow in Division C, where they reached 153-4 chasing 169 to win.
