Rudheath A win four trophies in successful Northwich and District League season
RUDHEATH A are celebrating a clean sweep of victories in Northwich and District League competitions this season after picking up a fourth trophy last week.
They recovered from 2-1 adrift to beat Castle Private in the Knockout Cup final, with wins from captain Declan Sneyd, John Warburton and Stuart Kellett turning the contest in their team’s favour.
David Aleks held his nerve in the seventh leg to secure victory for the men from Middlewich Road.
They have already made sure of first place in the league table after finishing the campaign unbeaten, while Andy Poynton scooped the singles’ title.
Andy Green and Matthew Hunt combined successfully in the doubles to complete the set.
Sneyd said: “It’s a great achievement to win a quadruple, and the team thoroughly deserve it.
“A combination of skill, luck and spirit has got us there.”
Kellett, ranked at 31 in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), was denied a place at next month’s Gibraltar Darts Trophy after losing to Matt Padgett, by 6-2, in a UK qualifier in Crawley last Friday.
The Northwich-based ace lost 6-4 to Welshman Mark Webster at the K2 Centre the following day, Saturday, at the first stage of the latest Players’ Championship.
His luck did not improve on Sunday, going down by the same margin to John Bowles.
It leaves the 32-year-old with work to do if he is to feature in the Players’ Championship finals in November.
Kellett needs to place inside the ProTour Order of Merit’s top 32 to qualify, and is currently 35th.
