TEENAGERS from Northwich Rowing Club continued their preparations for this year’s Henley Royal Regatta with an impressive victory in Nottingham on Saturday.
Finn Lawton, Zak Trigg, Tom Asteriades and Alex Bain were in an under 18s boy’s quad that saw off a challenge from neighbours Grange School to claim class honours at Nottingham City Regatta.
Less than four seconds separated the boats at the end of a 2,000m race at the National Water Sports Centre.
Club captain Rachel Hooper said: “The boys are having an incredible season so far and are reaping the reward of their hard work over the winter with great results.
“We’re incredibly proud that they’re representing Northwich on the national scene, and they’ve made a name for themselves as ones to watch in the coming months.”
George Lawton and Harry Blake were second and fifth overall respectively in the under 17s boy’s single sculls before the former joined Chris Malley in an under 16s boy’s double narrowly beaten into second spot.
The following day, Sunday, Elaine Young was part of a composite women’s masters D crew at the same venue with rowers from Norwich, Grosvenor and Cambridge that claimed category honours in the British Masters Championships.
Both Northwich and Grange School will be represented at the National Schools’ Regatta, also held in Nottingham, over three days from Friday.
They complete a busy weekend at the 130th annual Northwich Rowing Club Regatta on Bank Holiday Monday.
Crews from across the country, more than 200 of them, will race side-by-side down a 500m stretch of the River Weaver.
