1874 Northwich manager Ian Street predicts Atherton Collieries will want to spoil his side's winning sequence
IAN Street predicts Atherton Collieries will be doubly determined to end his side’s six-match winning sequence in the league when they meet later today, Saturday.
1874 Northwich were victors, by 1-0, when the teams met in Greater Manchester a fortnight ago – a victory the manager believes ended Colls’ promotion hopes.
“They’ll want to do the same to us,” he said.
“I expect them to be fired up after we beat them in a close game at their place, which I feel put them out of contention.
“They may think though a win this time gives them an outside chance.
“I’m not sure what happened last time will affect this next meeting, because I’d predict another tight game in any case.”
Colls arrive in Winsford placed fourth in the North West Counties League Division One table, seven points adrift of their hosts.
Northwich are a further four short of Formby in the second promotion place, but with a game in hand.
They won 4-1 at AFC Darwen in midweek, when four different players found the net including new recruit – and debutant – Sakeel Abdullah.
He has scored already too against Atherton this season while with Daisy Hill.
Street said: “I thought did well [on Wednesday], reproducing the same things he has in games against us earlier in the season.
“He’s not played for a few weeks so will need a bit of time to adjust, but he looks the part already even though there is a lot more to come from him.”
