BOWLERS from the Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association have an added incentive to enter this year’s prestigious Wharton Cons Open, which has a prize fund worth £4,000.

The league player who progresses furthest in the competition will pocket a £200 bonus thanks to sponsorship from Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group.

The first round is scheduled to start on Sunday, April 6 at the Winsford green.

“It might raise an eyebrow or two that a charity has decided to back this year’s competition,” said organiser Stewart Bailey.

“But we’re delighted to support them and highlight the work that they do.”

Wharton Cons plan to run again the club’s annual four-man team tournament, which gets underway on Sunday, March 17.

There are still vacancies, with entry set at £30 per side.

A mixed pairs competition takes place at the club on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26, from 10am.

Each couple pays £8 to play.

For further details, or to enter one of the above tournaments, contact Stewart Bailey on 01606 593902.
