WES Newton ended Stuart Kellett’s run in the Dutch Masters at the last 16 stage on Sunday, going through 6-3.

The Premier League player secured a quarter finals place at his Northwich-based opponent’s expense after averaging 104 in their head-to-head at the NH Hotel Koningshof.

Newton quickly established a 3-1 lead, including two 15-dart legs on his own throw and a 121 checkout to break his rival’s.

Kellett replied with an 11-dart run, landing his only maximum of the encounter before finishing on double 16.

However the world number eight, who sent out Kellett’s MDA Promotions stable mate Dean Winstanley on Saturday, broke back immediately on tops to make it 4-2.

Undeterred, Kellett matched the Fleetwood ace’s feat in style to take out 92 with a single 20 and a pair of double 18s.

Newton took the next two legs, and the match, on tops – including another 15-dart sequence in the eighth – to clinch a last eight meeting with home favourite and world champion, Michael van Gerwen, on Sunday evening.

“It was a really good game,” he said afterwards.

“I’ve not beaten Stuart before [on the PDC tour], so expected it to be difficult. I needed my head to be on straight. Luckily it was.”
