Winnington Park 1 University of Liverpool 1
MIKE Dodd’s run of form in front of goal continued on Saturday when he earned Winnington Park a point, their seventh draw of the season.
Midway through the first period Dodd, who netted a hat-trick against Northop Hall last weekend, opened the scoring at Moss Farm with a fine individual effort.
Picking the ball up 40 yards from goal, the young striker battled into the visitors’ circle before slotting past the visitors’ goalkeeper.
Park had chances to extend their lead, with Dodd continuing as the main source of anxiety for the students’ rearguard.
However they found an equaliser seconds before the break, the ball breaking kindly for a forward to lift deftly into the net.
The university outfit began the second half with attacking intent, but Winnington held firm with Sam Turley impressing in the backline with a number of crucial interceptions.
At the other end Paul Stackhouse went close with a powerful flick late on, but both sides eventually settled for a point.
Jack Millington, Mark Leigh and Chris Mottershaw all netted as Park’s seconds beat Runcorn 4-2 in the North West Men’s League.
