AT the end of only their second match together, 1874 Northwich players got their hands on a first piece of silverware at Widnes on Saturday.
A 3-0 success against fellow fans-owned club AFC Rushden & Diamonds, from the United Counties League’s top tier, means Ian Street’s new-look side becomes the third to win the Supporters Direct Shield.
First half goals from Lee Hendley and ex-Winsford midfielder Ryan Stewart, plus a late third courtesy of substitute Kyle Wilding, settled the outcome at the Select Security Stadium.
It marks the end of a week to remember, for 1874 defeated neighbours Lostock in an inaugural friendly on Wednesday.
They turn their attention now to a third pre-season match, against North West Counties League Premier Division club Congleton Town, on Tuesday, kick off 7.30pm.
