A DISABLED man from Weaverham has slammed a bus company after a driver told him to wait for another bus because prams were taking up space for his wheelchair.

Alan Boden, 54, of Russet Road, is wheelchair-bound, but has been told on three separate occasions to wait for another bus after the driver refused to ask for the pushchairs occupying the space to be moved.

Alan had been trying to board the number one circular, Weaverham to Rudheath Arriva service on each occasion.

His daughter-in-law, Charlene Boden, said that Alan had made a complaint, but had never heard anything.

"I always understood that wheelchairs had priority but the driver said the push chairs had priority. He didn't even ask them to move. His attitude was why should I?' "They make him wait for the next one, thinking that he has all the time in the world, but he doesn't."

Charlene added that Alan had made a complaint but nothing seemed to have been done.

"He has only been living here since October 2007 but its happened on three occasions now,", she said.

A spokesperson for Arriva said: "We have already been in contact with Mr Boden and are in the process of responding to him.

"Our policy in matters such as these is quite clear - providing the bus is accessible to wheelchairs users, the relevant space should, where possible, be made available.

"If the wheelchair space is being used by a passenger with a pram, then we would expect our drivers to ask if the pram can be folded."
