A FRUSTRATED community leader has given up his role because he is fed up with nothing being done.

Ben Coker, former chairman of Davenham Parish Council, has resigned as a councillor because community work was taking up too much of his time with very little to show for it.

Ben, a member of the parish council for two years, said: "It's because of a bit of frustration and a bit of disappointment.

"I've been unable to do as much as I wanted to do in the time and I could just see it carrying on like that - if I put it down for two years it would still be there to pick up."

The Kingsmead man has worked hard during his time on the council to bridge the gap between the estate and the Davenham village wards and to raise the profile of problems in Kingsmead.

He has also been involved in issues affecting the entire parish, including the Laburnum Road playing field project and safety measures on the A556.

Ben said: "It was getting to the point where, despite the fact that I wasn't chairman any more, I was spending two hours a day dealing with this, that or the other.

"It was getting out of hand. "It got to the point where there was lots of stuff to be done but nothing seemed to get done between one meeting and the next.

"It was even slower than I thought it would be to get anything progressed or moved forward."

He has not ruled out returning to the council once work pressures have eased off and fellow councillors said they would welcome him back. Clr John Curran, speaking at the latest parish council meeting, said: "Ben will be missed. "He did a lot of good work and Kingsmead has lost a champion.

"He can only be thanked for the work he's done and hopefully he will be able to join us again at a later date."
