ALISON Middleton spoke about the centenary garden party at Buckingham Palace.

The event was hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall with Princess Alexandra, the Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Gloucester also in attendance.

After a very long coach ride to London, Alison finally arrived in the Mall.

She spotted what she what she thought was a dead bird and picked it up, it turned out to be part of someone’s fascinator hat!

She went out on to the palace terrace which was bathed in sunshine and was faced with a sea of people before her.

Two rows formed with space in the middle where the royal party with ladies-in-waiting and bodyguards appeared and walked in between rows of guests.

Tea, delicate sandwiches and cakes were served in tents.

After tea, Alison set off to see the lovely lake with statues and the rose gardens.

A brass band played in the background.

Alison made her way back to the Mall where the coaches were waiting and had a six hour journey home. She was thrilled at the opportunity to attend such a special event representing Davenham WI.

The craft and produce entries were judged, the Craft cup was awarded to Christine Sawbridge and the Produce Cup awarded to Yvonne Smith. Eileen presented the cups to the winners.

The next meeting is today, Wednesday, when the topic will be ‘For better or worse’.
