Weaverham WI by J Griffiths

This month’s meeting was opened by the secretary Mrs Pat Hull describing her visit to the WI Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex. Pat was overwhelmed by the necessary security and wonderful organisation of the event. The immaculately presented finger sandwiches and tiny cakes in the teatime marquee left a lasting impression. Pat wore her attractive special outfit to help us share in the occasion.

Selena Prescott, a CFWI vice president, was welcomed as speaker. She has been a WI member for many years, joining as a young mother new to the area hoping to make friends. In her time as a WI adviser she has met countless people, ordinary and not so ordinary, and celebrity guest speakers. Her talk evoked many memories for members and herself.

There is no July meeting as it would clash with the CFWI 95th birthday celebrations at Gawsworth Hall. Ladies will meet for a coffee morning at The Lodge, Oakmere on July 1.

The August meeting on Wednesday 12 at 7.15pm in the Sea Scout Hall, Well Lane, Weaverham is a social evening. Everyone most welcome.
