MAY Martin, acting president, welcomed everyone into the hall which was decorated with flags. The theme for this month’s meeting was Victory in 1945.

The entertainment was provided by Jonathan and Pamela Bradley who sang a medley of songs from the forties. Jonathan is a George Formby impersonator and, taking up his ukulele, performed When I'm Cleaning Windows and we heard what happened to Mr Wu.

The temporary committee then served tea and cakes at tables bedecked with flags and flowers. The competition for a single rose was won by Margaret Dooley.

The afternoon was wound up by Marian Harris complete with magnificent hat, who described her day at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party. Marian was among 8,000 representatives of WIs across the country invited by the Queen to celebrate WI’s 100th Anniversary.
