Whitegate WI by Alison Gardner

Matthew, from Tiger Muffin Soaps, entertained members at this month’s meeting with a lively talk and demonstration on soap making. With various ingredients, jugs, spoons, a microwave oven and bottles of fragrance and colour he showed members how to produce soaps, a bath bomb and shower gel, interspersed with a humorous delivery of the methods, technical information and historical facts about soap, bathing and soap making.

The meeting continued with a report on a great day out at the Llanfair PG WI museum on Anglesey (home to the first WI in the UK). Members lunched there followed by a visit to the NT gardens at Bodnant.

Alison recounted her visit to the WI Centenary Buckingham Palace garden party, attended the previous day. She had come dressed in the outfit she had worn, complete with fascinator.

Programmes for the Village Show (September 19) are now available. Members were asked to promote it. Full schedules are available on the website, St Mary’s Church porch (Whitegate) and Littler’s Butchers (Sandiway).

Members were reminded that the next meeting will be a party to celebrate the WI centenary with the theme ‘Dress as a decade’ with a bring-and-share buffet.

The next meeting will be about Medieval cookery at Tatton Park on July 1 at 7.30pm – all welcome.
