Comberbach WI by Rosie Rowe IN the business part of the meeting, president Kath Dunn thanked everyone who had taken part in the annual bowls day on May 20.

Despite a dreary day, the competition had been enjoyable, the company convivial and the buffet excellent. Looking forward, she announced that they would be supporting the Comberbach Village Fair on Saturday, June 27 by having a cake stall.

She wished the two members who are attending the centenary Garden Party at Buckingham Palace a most enjoyable day.

She also reminded members about the centenary AGM at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday, June 4 and mentioned that it would be streamed live on YouTube for members to watch.

In the resolutions meeting in May, members were unable to vote for or against this year’s resolution on care in the community so have given the President and delegate a discretionary vote.

Speaker for the evening was Maureen Williams who gave a very entertaining and informative talk about the “life of a grocer”.

Her family have been in business since 1875 and still run a famous grocers’ shop in Sandbach.

The vote of thanks was given by Rosie Rowe.

The next meeting will be on Monday, July 6 at 7.30pm when Kathleen Pointon will give a talk on “Liquid embroidery, a humorous journey”.

Meetings are held at Comberbach Village Hall, visitors and new members are always welcome.
